A pin based thumb is one that is built upon a new longer bucket pin. The old pin is removed and a new longer pin is installed. If it has a grease fitting and journal, the new pin is replicated to have these too. 98% of the thumbs that we build are pin based thumbs. They are the stronger than weld on thumbs and the thumb rotates with the bucket during its movement.
